New information has come to light this week regarding Broomfield City Council member and mayoral candidate Kevin Kreeger, with court documents showing that not only was he convicted in 1996 of "patronizing a prostitute," but he was also arrested for assaulting and injuring a police officer two years before in Chicago.

The offense occurred in 1994 when Kreeger was asked to leave an area at the Sheffield Garden Walk after an event concluded. Kreeger "became loud and pushed" the officer with his bicycle, causing him to fall into a brick wall, which also resulted in an injury to the officer, according to the court documents.

Kreeger was taken into custody "after a brief struggle" after he refused to be handcuffed and "minimal force" was necessary to arrest him, the documents note.

Last week Kreeger voted against having background checks for public officials during a city council meeting. The board vote was was split, so Broomfield Mayor Randy Ahrens said they would explore the issue further.

A background check on Kreeger found that he was convicted on a prostitution-related charge in Chicago in 1996.

Cook County (Illinois) criminal record documents found that an officer observed Kreeger "in the act of sexual intercourse with a known prostitute,” according to the arrest report. Kreeger also admitted to paying the prostitute after he was read his Miranda rights and he was also charged with "patronizing a prostitute," according to the report.

Kreeger waived a jury trial and ended up with six months' supervised probation, according to the documents.

Kreeger's mayoral candidate platform boasts transparency. "The public deserves complete transparency,” his campaign website says. Kreeger also promises on his website to serve the city with “the utmost integrity.”
